A magic wand – Make your new home cosy in 2 hours flat
It was weeks, possibly months in the planning. And now that you’re in, everything is in utter, complete turmoil. The bad news is that you can expect this chaos for at least a couple more weeks. The good news is there are seven fast tasks that you can do to make your home, feel like home.
Get the evening lighting right
Cosy down lighters never fail to create a bit of evening atmosphere (and they make for a great alternative to candles, which should really be avoided at all costs given how many highly flammable boxes you likely have lying around!). If you do want the comforting glow of flickering candles, go for battery powered flameless candles (which are supercheap, coming in at under £10 each over on Amazon).
Unpack a select few create comforts
We’re talking side tables, house plants, the odd ornament and photos – you know, the things that make a house a home (and the things that you can rest that comforting cup of tea on!).
Cover up those boxes with clean white sheets
It’s better than looking at ugly brown boxes, right?
Decide on those new places for old routines
Where will you now keep your keys or have your morning cup of coffee? Where will you hang your coat and put your shoes? Set up these spaces so that your day to day routine isn’t too interrupted (and important things like your keys don’t go missing).
Hang the window dressings and pop out the rugs
The windows and floors can make a huge difference to the homeliness of a property, so before unpacking anything else, get these areas sorted first.
Make up your bed (and make your bedroom, your sanctuary)
Many people focus on their living spaces before everywhere else, yet sleeping amongst chaos and clothes can lead to a terrible night’s sleep. Your bedroom should be your safe space to retreat from the hectiness of moving. So after you’ve sorted your windows and floors, make sure that the bedroom is next on your list.
Go for large prints and artwork
It’s going to be a while before you can even think about redecorating. In the meantime, you can still introduce your personality to the place – just do it with large canvas, large-scale prints of your favourite sayings and pieces of colour artwork. To avoid any damage to the walls (and to avoid anything else being added to your DIY list) just use picture hanging strips.
Moving home isn’t easy. Uprooting from one place to another can be unsettling and super stressful. If you’d prefer to focus on other stuff, our House moving service in York can help. And relaaaxxx.
